It has been a disappointing season for FC Porto going by their exemplary standards in the last decade. The team has dominated the Portuguese football scene with several league titles.

Even though Benfica remain the most successful club in Portuguese history, Porto are not far away from taking the lead. This season, however, has been full of struggles for the team. Porto are a whopping five points behind Sporting CP – albeit having played a game less – in the Primera Liga table. Draws against the likes of Sporting Braga has left the team in a difficult state, but manager Julen Lopetegui remains confident of improving the position.

One of the main reasons for Porto to remain at least in contention for the title is goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who is a legend in world football. The Spaniard is known for his immense contribution to Real Madrid. After having played for such a top club for almost 2 decades, Casillas was expected to struggle with the pressure of playing for a lesser club – than Real Madrid – but he has so far coped admirably according to the manager. Casillas has featured in all the nine league outings with Helton barely getting a game. Despite the poor start, the season has all the ingredients to become good for Porto.

“He’s putting all his experience to serve our interests and has absolutely identified with the requirements for a club like Porto. He has understood perfectly. When we realized that we were in tune, everything was very simple,” saidLopetegui about his star goalkeeper, who bid a tearful goodbye to Madrid in the summer. Casillas is one of the hugely experienced goalkeepers in the world. He has won an astonishing amount of trophies including the World Cup and the European championships with Spain in the last decade.
