Real Madrid goalkeeper and captain Iker Casillas praised the performance of his teammates in the match against Sevilla during the weekend. Real Madrid were coming into the match on the back of the Champions League exit at the hands of Bayern Munich on penalties.

Hence, many were expecting Real Madrid to be self pitying themselves, but they turned in a great performance that was reminiscent of the Champions. As a result, they thrashed Sevilla 3-0 and moved a step closer towards the winning the league title for the first time since 2008. José Mourinho said that he was extremely proud of his players after the match.

Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas also expressed the same thoughts, as he kept yet another clean sheet for Real Madrid. Iker Casillas almost saved Real Madrid stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka in the penalty shootout against Bayern Munich, but the miss by Sergio Ramos ultimately proved costly for the team. The 30-year-old goalkeeper has made more than 450 appearances for the Spanish club. He has been at the club for 13 years, and has lifted the Champions League trophy with the club back in 2002. The 3-0 win over Sevilla also means that Real Madrid can be Champions if Barcelona failed to win against Rayo Vallecano.

“It was important to win today after the harsh blow of losing on Wednesday in a penalty shoot-out at our stadium. We have to look ahead and focus on winning this league title, which we are all excited about and would be a beautiful thing. We’ve topped the table for most of the season. We had to defeat Sevilla and we did. We’ve taken a solid step in the championship and winning the title would be a reward to the hard work we’ve been doing for months, even years,” said Casillas.
