Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who has largely been on the sidelines this campaign, has stated that his team can win the treble this campaign against all odds. Madrid are currently three points behind table leaders Barcelona, but Athletico Madrid have also emerged as a strong contender for the title.
They have been quite brilliant in the Champions league so far after managing to top the group with victories in all the matches. They are also close to progression to the latter stages of the Copa del Rey.
This has made Iker Casillas sound extremely confident about the chances of title success this campaign. The 32-year-old has not been used in the league matches due to the form of Diego Lopez. After spending the entire career at Madrid, it is expected that Casillas will move away from the club at the end of the season if his position does not improve.
He has been linked with the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal in the last few weeks, but he has not spoken about potential transfer in this interview, and we wouldn’t recommend Liverpool fans getting too excited about him joining just yet!
“We’re working for it. We’re training for it but we can’t go crazy because even though right now people are praising us, that can take the edge off. We need to keep going as we are right now and wait for the end of the season. This is a young, ambitious team. Hopefully, we’ll win the Champions League – we’ve been waiting for it for 11 years – another league and, why not, the Copa del Rey,” said Casillas. The Spaniard has already picked up a Champions League title with Real Madrid 11 years ago.
Rather, he has spoken about the possibility of another trophy laden season for Real Madrid. This is the first season at the Spanish club for manager Carlo Ancelotti, who was brought in from PSG in the summer.
